Transvaginal Mesh is a plastic product that is designed to permanently fix pelvic organ prolapse or urinary stress incontinence. When the pelvic organs can fall into the vagina his is called pelvic organ prolapsed. Urinary stress incontinence occurs when the woman laughs, sneezes or coughs, this causes uncontrolled urination.
Transvaginal mesh is to repair pelvic organ prolapsed or stress incontinence by placing the plastic material through the vagina and securing the problem area. This method is less invasive and is quicker.
The problems with this mesh product is it cuts into the surrounding organs and causes severe pain, sometimes chronic pain. The mesh can become stuck in these organs and that makes it difficult if not impossible to remove. Therefore this foreign body that has invaded the organs is permanent and can become debilitating.
The mesh is placed through the vagina to patch the problem area.
This occurs when the pelvic organs, i.e. vagina, uterus, cervix, bladder, rectum, and or urethra, drop into the vagina. Normally it is the bladder that is frequently affected. The muscles that hold up the organs weaken either through age, childbirth or child labor, resulting in them falling into the vagina.
